چکیده

Virtual reality has the potential to enhance a variety of real-world training and entertainment applications by creating illusion that user virtual is physically present inside digitally created environment. However, use tactile feedback convey information about this environment often lacking in VR applications. New methods for inducing degree users are described, which induced experience, referred as pseudo-tactile feedback. These utilised shared properties between audio can be crossmodally mapped two modalities design prototype qualitative usability study order test effectiveness underlying causes such total absence any Results show participants required believable stimuli they could conceive textures well sense hand-ownership suspend disbelief construct an internally consistent mental model This allowed them sensations result from interaction with objects

Electro-tactile feedback system to enhance virtual reality experience

Virtual Reality (VR) has been proven to be capable of enabling its users to experience immersive virtual environments and interact with the computer. Most VR applications utilize stereo visual perception, however, stereo visual perception alone is not enough to fully immerse users in VR environments. Haptic feedback technology when applied to VR applications can offer improved immersion and int...

Authentication Using Tactile Feedback

As current knowledge-based systems do not take into account human limitations when recalling authenticating strings, individuals often select short or guessable passwords. As a result, a compromise is created between memorability and security. To address these issues, a novel approach has been developed examining the use of recognition-based authentication, through the use of the haptic modalit...

Crossmodal Interaction: Using Audio or Tactile Displays in Mobile Devices

Research Area and Topic Description This PhD research involves multimodal and mobile interaction. Mobile device users can be in a variety of different situations where visual, audio, or tactile feedback is not appropriate e.g. when driving, visual feedback could go unnoticed. This research aims to investigate the design of auditory/tactile crossmodal icons which can provide an alternative form ...

Human Tactile Spatial Sensitivity for Tactile Feedback

In this paper, we quantify several spatial capabilities of the hmnan tactile system needed for tactile feedback, or teletaction. Psychophysics experiments measure the amplitude resolution of the human tactile system, the effects of shear stress on grating orientation discrimination, and the effects of viscoelasticity {creep and relaxation) on tactile perception for static touch. The results are...
